Mohammed Al Gergawi, the UAE’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future announced the launch of the Global Coder initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Global Coder will teach coding to 5 million people from underprivileged families around the world.
The initiative aims to boost businesses and create jobs by equipping millions of people around the world with the skills of the future. Thereby, giving them opportunities to start their own companies.
Drawing on the UAE’s history, Al Gergawi mentions that when the UAE was formed in 1971, few believed in the potential of the country. “I was born in the ’60s in the city of Dubai. Back then, we had no running water, we barely had electricity. No proper health care, no university,” the Minister explains. However, with the help of other countries it prospered and became a hub of innovation. Therefore, it is essential for the UAE to continue building on its successes by ensuring economic prosperity for all.
“To eliminate poverty we need to create jobs, we need to empower society. We need to create companies for people, build their societies and their families.”Mohammed Al Gergawi, MINISTER OF Cabinet affairs and the future, UAE
